Teachers' Conference

The Kirov Academy of Ballet is pleased to announce its 2019 Summer Intensive Teacher Training Program & Conference in Washington, DC. The program is designed to introduce ballet teachers to the world’s famed Vaganova method known for its detailed, logical pedagogy and emphasis on integration of both lower and upper body. Participants will examine the challenges of teaching the art of ballet to young children. Upon successful completion of the program, teachers will develop an understanding of the method and gain pedagogical knowledge necessary to teach Level 1-2 curriculum.

The program consists of two main elements: lectures/discussions with the distinguished artistic faculty and class observations. In addition, participants will be introduced to a variety of subjects that are relevant to the Vaganova method discussing its history, purpose and application.

Program Overview

Classes in the Vaganova method conducted by the distinguished Artistic Faculty of Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, DC and the visiting faculty from the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet in St. Petersburg, Russia
Lectures on methodology of teaching Level 1-2 (ages 10-12)
Lectures on the historical and artistic purpose of the Vaganova method in ballet pedagogy
Attendance and observation of all Level 1-2 classes at the Kirov Academy of Ballet I Washington DC (classical dance, historical dance, pointe, etc)
Exclusive video screening from the Academy’s archives of classes and exams
Practical work in the studio with feedback from the faculty
Observation of all Master Classes (Saturdays)

Program Fees

Tuition - $1600.00 per session ($3000.00 for both sessions)*
Materials - $150.00
Application Fee - $50.00

Application Requirements and Eligibility

Applicants must be at least 18 years old by June 2019

Applicants must be practicing ballet teachers and have an intermediate/advanced level of ballet training
