Classes are conducted 2-3 times per week Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for beginners; and Tuesday and Thursday for more advanced learners. Translation of the classics and a study of Latin’s connection to the roots of many other languages especially English and Italian are studied.

Introductory Latin Enrichment Course

This course is for students who are just starting to be familiar with Latin. The course will start with the basic foundation in the language, learning to read, write and say simple Latin sentences. The course covers the basic rules of Latin grammar and syntax, and how to apply them in writing and speech. The student will study the origins of Latin, its influence on modern languages, especially English, and why it is not spoken today. The course will also cover the linguistic and cultural connections between Roman society and the modern world identifying the significance of Roman gods and mythological figures. This course is an essential ‘101’ for a classical education.

Advanced Latin Enrichment Course

This course will take students who have a foundation in Latin to the next level. As a student advances in Latin, their knowledge of the English language and its roots in Latin, will help to improve their ability to write, read, intuit and comprehend the meanings in context of English words. Latin will provide a linguistic basis for learning other Romance languages such as Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese and Romanian. In addition Latin stimulates students’ interest in Roman culture and the history of how it has come to influence the modern world in architecture, the arts and philosophy. Latin grammar and syntax and topical studies on Roman culture will be covered in more detail.(i.e. religion, architecture, contributions to later societies, etc.).
