Commuter Academic Only Program Admission Process


Kirov Academy of Washington DC partners with Serving Our Children (SOC), initiated in 2004 by the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program. SOC Scholarship Award Recipients are invited to apply to Kirov Academy for the DC Resident Academic Only Program. More information about academics at Kirov Academy is on the Programs page.

Admissions

To apply, complete and submit the form on the website to indicate your interest in applying for the program.

  • Each applicant will be contacted by the Academic Department to set up a tour of the Academy and an interview with the Academic Director.
  • Bring an official sealed transcript of your child’s current grades, or, if not possible, at least two years of report cards for evaluation by the Academic Department.
  • Schedule a time to take the IOWA Basic Skills test at the Academy.

Upon approval of the application, submit the SOC enrollment form. An invitation will be sent to enroll in the SIS (School Information System), Gradelink.

Tuition and Fees:

  • Enrollment Fee:  $200
  • Academic Tuition to be paid by SOC Grant
  • Textbook rental fees: $150
  • School Trips Fee:  $100
  • Discounted meal plans for breakfast and lunch
  • Discounted fees for After School Ballet Program
  • Discounted fees for After School Music Program
  • Academic tutoring is available for $30 / hour
  • AP and SAT Preparation Classes are available, at extra cost.

DC Metro Area families who are not enrolled in the SOC Program, may inquire by contacting admissions@kabdc.org.

What happens next?
  • Tour of the school
  • Interview with student and parent
  • IOWA Skills test
  • Upon acceptance present SOC Placement form
  • Enroll in SIS (Gradelink)
  • Sign one-year Contract (Gradelink)

  • Reference letter from previous school counselor 
  • Proof of Medical Insurance
Materials List
  • Notebooks or Ring-binders with lined paper
  • Art supplies (Art teacher will provide a list)
  • Pencils
  • Erasers
  • Pens (blue, black and red)
  • Calculator
  • Lap-top (useful but not essential)
  • Gym clothes and non-marking sneakers
  • Exercise Mat (Yoga mat or equivalent)
  • Face Mask (COVID-19 prevention)
  • Uniform: Black or Navy Blue Pants & Shirt / Blouse (No jeans or low-neckline tops)
