Mi Sun Kang


Universal Ballet Principal Dancer / 2002 Alumna


Mi Sun Kang was born in Incheon, South Korea. She received her ballet training at the Sun Hwa Arts School and the Kirov Academy of Ballet, Washington, DC. Mi Sun Kang joined Universal Ballet as a member of the corps de ballet in 2002, was promoted to Demi-Soloist in 2005 and then was again quickly promoted to Soloist in 2006. She was promoted to Senior Soloist in 2010 and finally named as a Principal Dancer in 2012. During her time at Universal Ballet, she performed numerous lead roles in classical and contemporary ballets. 

She has earned numerous awards such as the Chairman’s Prize at the Korea Ballet Association Competition in 1997, won a Gold Medal at the New Dancer National Dance Competition in 2003, then the 1st Prize at the Seoul International Dance Competition in 2007 and received the Korea Ballet Association’s Prima Ballerina Award in 2009. Then she went on to receive the Seoul Dance Festival's Best Dance Performance Award in 2016 and the Korea Dance Association’s Kim Baek Bong Award in 2018.

Mi Sun Kang has commanding self-confidence on stage. She enthralls audiences with her strong charisma and expresses dramatic nuances in every performance, along with her powerful technique. Her outstanding technique shines particularly brightly in classical ballet roles.

Mi Sun’s repertoire with the Company includes featured roles in Don Quixote (Kitri), The Nutcracker (Clara), John Cranko’s Onegin (Tatiana), Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo & Juliet (Juliet), Giselle (Giselle), Sleeping Beauty (Aurora), Graeme Murphy's Giselle (Giselle), Swan Lake (Odette, Odile), La Bayadere (Nikia, Gamzatti), Shim Chung (Shim Chung), Brian Yoo's The Love of Chunhyang (Chunhyang) and many others.
