Take The First Step

What Happens Next?

Students who are invited to the Year-round Program may contact the Admissions Department, admissions@kabdc.org, and request:

  • To schedule a “Shadow Day” to come to Kirov Academy and experience “A Day in the Life of a Kirov Academy Student;” attending both academic and artistic classes for the specified day; and be evaluated for possible scholarship for the Year-round Program. Many students come during their Spring Break unless Kirov’s break coincides.
  • To send in a video for artistic scholarship consideration;
  • To submit an application for financial aid through FAST, Kirov’s online system.
Artistic Scholarships

The academy offers a limited number of artistic scholarships for students who meet and maintain the Artistic Department’s set artistic criteria. Artistic scholarships are talent-based and are awarded at the sole discretion of the Artistic Department and are applied to the artistic tuition only.

Please note that the scholarship evaluation criteria for the Summer Program and the Year-Round Program are different. Receiving an artistic scholarship for the Summer Intensive does not guarantee an artistic scholarship for the Year-Round Program. The most accurate way to be evaluated for an artistic scholarship for the Year-Round Program is to participate in the Summer Music Festival. For further information, please contact the Admissions Department: admissions@kabdc.org.

Financial Aid

Kirov Academy has a limited amount of Financial Aid available each year to offer to those students whose families meet the qualifying criteria. For any family to be considered to receive Financial Aid from the Academy an application must be submitted using the online system, FAST; and all required documentation must be uploaded into FAST for verification. To apply, click on the FAST logo to go begin an application.

International Student Admissions

International students audition using the same methods as US citizens. However, in addition, Kirov Academy also may send a representative to various competitions and music festivals around the world to discover appropriate students to invite to the Summer Music Festival, the Year-Round Program, or the high school graduate Pre-Professional Program.

Information about Visas

International middle and high school students must fulfill the requirements to receive an I-20 from the Academy to apply for an F-1 student visa at the US Embassy in your country of citizenship. Entering students pay a $500 I-20 processing fee.

For international high school graduates, at this time, Kirov Academy does not have certification to issue I-20s for the M-1 student visa that is required to attend Kirov Academy’s high school graduate Pre-Professional Program. Kirov Academy is petitioning to issue I-20s for M-1 student visas and will update the website when this is complete.

Mandatory Health Insurance for International Students

All students who attend Kirov Academy must have medical insurance to attend. Kirov Academy partners with Lewermark Insurance to provide medical insurance with a US firm while a student at Kirov Academy. The cost is about $1,600 a year.

Students who are US citizens living abroad may also qualify to receive this insurance. There are isolated circumstances where some international students’ participation in this insurance may be waived.

ESL Program for International Students

For international students who come for ballet and music, English proficiency is not a requirement for enrollment. You are not required to take an English fluency test to apply or enroll. Kirov Academy has a full English as a Second Language (ESL) program for those whose English is not sufficient for them to take courses with native English-speaking students.

The goal of the ESL Program is to naturally transition into academic classes with native English speakers. The Program consists of courses in English, Science, and Social Studies to help students become familiar with the English vocabulary that will be required to enter classes with native English speakers. The cost of this program ranges from $6,000 to $2,000 depending on whether the student needs 3, 2 or 1 of the courses offered each year.

At the beginning and end of each academic year, students are given a proficiency test to see how many courses are required for that year and the next. Students who study English over the summer will transition over into regular classes more quickly than other students who do not.
